Lab Assistant I - Bio



Function:
Assist Biology Lab management in laboratory preparation for a variety of college-level biology classes. Help maintain classrooms, prepare laboratory setups, and assist instructors in class.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Prepare laboratory exercise set-ups and student supplies for various science laboratory courses.

2. Prepare stock solutions and microbiology media.

3. Clean up and maintain laboratories and prep rooms

4. Clean and maintain laboratory equipment,

5. Maintain cadavers and cadaver room.

1. Assist instructors during class, as needed.

2. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.

Physical Demands:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Position requires visual acuity to perform activities (i.e. operates machines where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature).

Moderate noise.

Hazards. (Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to radiation, or exposure to chemicals).

Fumes or airborne particles (Includes fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation).

Required Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

2. Must have completed college-level biology classes (specifically General Biology and Microbiology) with a grade of C or better and basic knowledge of chemistry.

3. Knowledge of relevant scientific and biological course content areas.

4. Knowledge and ability to work safely and efficiently in a scientific laboratory setting.

5. Strong communication skills.

6. Ability to follow laboratory protocols, procedures, and safety requirements.

7. Ability to operate complex laboratory equipment.
