The purpose of the Corley Institute for Diversity and Inclusion Education of the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School is to educate members of the legal community- student, lawyers, and legal educations- about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. Under the supervision of the Senior Associate Dean, the qualified individual will run the Corley Institute for Diversity and Inclusion Education. Specifically, the Director will be responsible for conducting the law school-sponsored educational programs on diversity and inclusion. The Director is responsible for fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth and enhanced understanding of diversity and inclusion issues for Scalia Law students and legal professionals. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; Other duties may be assigned.

  • Run the Diversity & Inclusion Program, including classroom instruction, for students at GMU law (and potentially expand to include faculty and staff from the law school and other university units).
  • Serve as liaison for the Scalia Law affinity groups with respect to diversity programming.
  • Plan and execute an Annual Educational Conference on Diversity & Inclusion for law school Deans, Associate and Assistant Deans, and other law school leaders from around the country.
  • Create and maintain a Speakers Bureau of qualified individuals willing to travel to law schools for faculty, staff, and student training and other educational programming.
  • Create educational programs on diversity and inclusion for lawyers and law firms.
  • Work with the Dean of the Law School to solicit funds from law firms and corporations to sponsor the institute’s educational programs
  • Provide resources and guidance for current and new diversity initiatives 
  • Stay abreast of diversity and inclusion trends and best practices 
  • Work with the law school Communications Director on the development and distribution of internal and external communications about diversity and inclusion initiatives and successes of the school and its programs
  • Process and monitor diversity and inclusion expenses related to programming; Process and reconcile expenditures and related receipts.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field or Juris Doctor 
  • Demonstrated experience, minimum of five years, in diversity and inclusion programming
  • Ability to anticipate issues and take appropriate steps to resolve problems 
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and thrive in demanding environment
  • Superior organizational, project management, and planning skills 
  • Proficiency with recent versions of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Collaborative, professional, service-oriented interpersonal style in working with colleagues, staff, supervisor, and constituents

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Budget experience 
  • Higher education or executive teaching experience 
  • Development or fundraising experience 
  • Budget experience
