Degree and area of specialization:
B.S. in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
This position is appropriate for a candidate with 5 years of experience after graduation. Any experience will be positively considered.

Required Skills:
-Programming experience in the Python language.
-Linux system administration experience.

Experience in any of the following is a plus:
-Service monitoring and troubleshooting.
-Configuration management systems such as puppet and automated server deployment.
-Designing, coding, and using automated test software.
-Distributed computing or HPC (e.g., cluster, grid, or cloud computing)
-Large scale storage systems and distributed filesystems.
-Server deployment and container orchestration in Cloud or kubernetes environments.

Position Summary:
WIPAC is a research center in the University of Wisconsin-Madison with responsibility for the IceCube Neutrino
Observatory, a kilometer-scale neutrino detector located at the South Pole. A collaboration of more than 300 scientists from over forty research institutions worldwide conducts a research program to study high-energy neutrinos from cosmic sources. UW-Madison is responsible for the Maintenance & Operation of the observatory. Details can be found at http://icecube.wisc.edu/.

The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) is seeking a systems programmer with strong Linux and Python skills. The successful candidate will play a leadership role in an agile team with focus to service delivery and user support. Attention to detail is necessary, as is a demonstrated ability to initiate and complete technical projects with minimal supervision.
