Position Description:
The Facilities Management and Development (FMD) organization is a unit within the Administration and Finance division and is responsible for the management and development of facilities on the university campus. The Facilities Automation Control Specialist works within the Engineering Services shop of the Facilities Operations Department of FMD, which is responsible for providing quality maintenance, minor repair, and renovation services that meet or exceed our customers' expectations. The purpose of the Engineering Services shop is to operate, maintain, and repair campus heating, cooling, and ventilating equipment.
Under limited supervision, the Facilities Automation Control Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance and adjustment, and repair of electric, electronic, pneumatic, and digitally controlled building automation systems which manage the most complex HVAC and refrigeration systems. This position monitors, troubleshoots, designs, modifies, calibrates, and programs system features and respond to technical and mechanical problems, either remotely or on-site. The individual must be thoroughly conversant in the software operation of the applicable building automation system and have the journey-level skills and experience to allow for the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of complex HVAC systems and their components.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Five years of progressively responsible skilled journey-level experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining large, complex and sophisticated heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning, and water treatment systems. This includes experience installing, inspecting, servicing, repairing, replacing and calibrating building automation and control systems, as well as using programming features of building automation systems.
The five years must incorporate: one year experience with the installation and repair of central multi-zone air conditioning systems and/or two years experience with the operation, maintenance and repair of boiler, heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and systems or the equivalent combination of formal course work in this area.
