Summary of Job Duties
The Serials Clerk will be responsible for the following:
  • Opening mail: Sort through and open mail/packages
  • Processing: Stamp, strip, and process materials to be shelf-ready
  • Shelving: Shelf items that are ready to go to stacks according to Library of Congress call number system
  • Pocketing parts: File pocket parts according to call number and volumes in series/sets
  • Stacking maintenance: Regular library walk around picking up books that need to be shelved in the proper location, pushing in chairs, dusting, and maintaining a clean and tidy library appearance
  • Loose leaf filing: Fill in for student work-study workers during breaks. File releases with proper sets according to filing instructions
  • Shelf reading and shifting projects: As needed or when necessary
  • Binding: Help library assistant with the preparation of materials to be sent to the bindery
