Overview
Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct faculty member to teach KINES 20: Introduction to Sport and Recreation Management (1 credit course) in the traditional undergraduate Kinesiology program in Fall 2018.
MWF: 10:30-11:35am

The Kinesiology major is a four-year course of study leading to either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science depending on the student's area of interest.The major requires rigorous study of the human being in motion.We examine the whole personanatomically, physiologically, biomechanically, psychologically, sociologically, and historicallyacross the lifespan.Our domains are health, sport, and physical activity.Students select one area within which to study: Sport and Recreation Management (Bachelor of Arts), Health Promotion (Bachelor of Arts), or Exercise Science (Bachelor of Science).

Responsibilities
Introduction to Sport and Recreation Management is designed to be a survey of key topics associated with sport management during which students will analyze the concepts and methods of administering sport and recreation service organizations.Course components include: A survey of sport management systems in the US, including legislative authorization and controls; strategic management; sport-sales and revenue; sport communication; sport marketing and branding; consumer behavior; and human resource management.This course also includes an integrative, sport management-related field experience. This course satisfies the Community Engagement requirement of the Core Curriculum.

This Community Engagement experience requires 20-hours of work by students in partnership with an on- or off-campus community partner. The instructor hired for this course will be responsible for facilitating this experience for the students in the course and for attending a required Community Engagement faculty development training on Thursday, August 23, 2018, from 9am - 3pm as well as subsequent mandatory trainings. Additional compensation is provided in-line with these expectations.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: Know the meaning of management and explain the multidimensional field of sport management; Provide an overview of the structure of the sport industry as well as issues facing sport organizations; Recognize the complexities and necessities of sales and revenue generation, communication, marketing, ticketing, finance and economics, and human resource management; Think critically about the current challenges and debates surrounding the role of sport in society and how these challenges relate to sport managers; Describe a multiplicity of different career paths available to sport managers; Apply academic methods and/or theories in a way that promotes collaboration and mutual benefit in a community setting; Demonstrate critical reflection throughout their field experience, especially in relation to professional growth; Express an understanding of the interconnections between their experience and their responsibilities as members of social or professional communities; Communicate ideas effectively in both oral and written forms.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will preferably hold a terminal degree in Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation Management, or a closely related field. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level as evidenced by recent course evaluations is strongly preferred as is experience working with students completing integrative experiences. Candidates should be comfortable supporting and working in a multi-cultural environment.
