Degree and area of specialization:
Master's degree, or other graduate or professional degree, or Bachelor's degree plus substantial experience.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
- At least year of work experience that provides broad experience with a university's academic mission (e.g., instructional activity, research, or other academic activities)
- Knowledge of and interest in the rapidly changing nature of higher education as relevant to duties
- Excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills and teamwork skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work independently as well as cooperatively within established and ad hoc teams, ability to advance projects and initiatives
- Aptitude for systems thinking, accuracy and attention to detailed work and ability to integrate to "big picture" thinking
- Experience using tools such as MS-Excel, MS-Access, SQL tools, SPSS, SAS, Tableau or related query and analysis tools with large data sets

Position Summary:
The Office of Academic Planning and Institutional Research (APIR; http://apir.wisc.edu ) provides support to campus-wide activities related to curricular and academic program planning. APIR academic planning staff support both the University Academic Planning Council (UAPC) and the University Curriculum Committee (UCC). In this role staff review materials for committee agendas to make sure they meet standards, advise school/college/department partners on how to prepare successful proposals, and develop and advise on curricular and academic policy matters. The successful candidate will be able to keep the vision of the full process in mind, while also attending to the success of each step of what can be lengthy process. Currently we are implementing software to move all of the transactions to an online system, branded as Lumen, and this transition will dominate the work of academic planners in 2018 and 2019.

APIR also supports analytics related to the people (students and employees), academic programs (degrees, majors, certificates, and courses), and academic units (schools/colleges, departments, centers and institutes) of UW-Madison. Our work facilitates the activities of the provost, the deans, other campus leaders, and governance groups, and includes work on nationally important analytical projects.

Additional Information:
Preferred experience:
- Knowledge of the student career cycle and student experience, factors associated with student academic success and progress to degree, curricular and academic planning, program review, CourseLeaf software, the student information system are plus factors.
- Knowledge of curricular and academic program policy and planning in the university
- Experience developing proposals for academic programs or courses, or experience with program review
- Experience with faculty and staff committees, including formal governance committees
- Experience supporting and advancing enterprise-wide change in large organizations

The incumbent will serve as a campus resource on topics related to course and academic program planning; support the development of new policies and initiatives related to duties; and be committed to the integrity of course, curricular and academic planning processes as they serve faculty, staff and students.

Proficiency with the MS-Office suite, including MS-Excel; e-mail, and e-calendaring is assumed.
