Degree and area of specialization:
Degree is not required for this position. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is highly preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
An ideal candidate should have at least three to five years of related experience.

Required Skills:
- Experience creating, manipulating, and extracting information from large data sets
- Effective written and oral communications skills including preparation of complex analysis of financial information
- Ability to lead and collaborate with other financial staff and management
- Ability to obtain and analyze data with automated tools (e.g. Excel, Hyperion Interactive Reporting, PeopleSoft Query, Tableau/other visualization tools).

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of financial budgeting principles, practices, and procedures, including budget forecasting
- Extensive knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and procedures
- Ability to develop and write accurate and concise financial policies and procedures
- Ability to perform complex analysis, problem solving, and decision-making
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative policy analysis techniques
- Knowledge of State of Wisconsin and/or UW System budgeting and budget management processes
- Knowledge of government accounting practices and techniques
- Ability to advise management and make alternative recommendations
- Knowledge of business intelligence tools

Position Summary:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a large complex organization that has a budget of over $2.9 billion with total staff in excess of 17,000 FTE. The UW-Madison Budget Office reviews and approves annual budget submissions from approximately forty-five separate budgetary organizational units within the university.

This position is a key member of the professional staff in the UW-Madison Budget Office. The Budget Office is responsible for the development, implementation, and submission of the annual budget. Additional responsibilities include monitoring and management of the annual operating budget. The Budget Office also conducts fiscal policy analysis and other analytical research in support of senior campus leadership including the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, the Provost, and the Chancellor.
