Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesA Vassar College Leadership Gifts Officer has primary responsibility for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of current and potential donors with the capacity of making gifts between $100,000 and $1 million. S/he will work independently and with other members of the Alumnae/i Affairs and Development (OAAD) staff, College administrators and faculty, and high-level volunteers to create and implement plans that result in the acquisition and retention of major gifts from individual donors. Vassar College Leadership Gifts Officers report to the Director of Leadership Gifts and Gift Planning. Exact title and salary will be determined based on the level of experience of the successful candidate.
Primary responsibilities:
  • Create opportunities to conduct face-to-face meetings for the purposes of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding an assigned portfolio of approximately 175 current and prospective prospects and donors.
  • Spend 5-8 days each month (goal of three visits per day) traveling on behalf of the College to meet with current and prospective donors.
  • Follow up all donor or prospective contacts with meticulous, thoughtful, and appropriate correspondence and maintain internal record-keeping as defined by office protocols. Work collaboratively with other members of the OAAD team to identify, cultivate, research and solicit prospective and current donors.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Vassar College, its history, people, programs, and initiatives.
  • Attend and support alumnae/i and donor relations activities related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Understand and meet department standards, policies, and procedures with respect to all aspects of his/her work.
  • Work occasional weekends for special events (Reunion, staffing Regional Program events, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
The successful candidate for this position should be a self-starting strategic thinker whose hallmark qualities should include the ability to listen carefully, a commitment to liberal arts education, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to relate comfortably with people of diverse profiles and backgrounds. A solid track record of success in fundraising, financial services, marketing/sales, or educational management. Proven ability to cultivate and close major and deferred gifts is required. Other requirements include a bachelor's degree, the ability to travel extensively and flexibility with work hours including occasional weekends
