Job Summary:
This is a journey level Bricklayer and Mason position. Under general supervision, perform all the duties of a Bricklayer and Mason to repair or remodel existing buildings or parts of buildings on the University of Wisconsin Madison Campus.

Must have completed an apprenticeship program approved by the State of Wisconsin, Department of Workforce Development, as a Bricklayer/Mason. Persons having informal training and experience equivalent to the formal apprenticeship and journey status may also be accepted upon submission of documented proof of such training and experience.

Schedule Comment:
7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Mon-Friday, 30 min unpaid lunch break.

Starting pay is $38.57 to $39.82 per hour depending on leave time selected.

Applicants will be asked to upload a resume and cover letter. To be minimally qualified you must have the Requirement for Journey Level Recognition (see requirements below).

In your cover letter please describe work experience with repairing and remodeling buildings, work environments you have worked in, material estimating, safety precautions and site conditions. Please list any safety training you may have had. Also in the cover letter, indicate which of the requirements for Journey level recognition you have (see below).

Requirements for Journey Level Recognition:

Journey level (or equivalent) status must be earned by completing at least 4,680 hours of experience in all of the following work processes:
Hours
Care and Use of Tools and Equipment 40
Trowels, hammers, levels, rulers, saws, welding, equipment, transits,
lasers, scaffolding, ladders, etc.

Laying of Block Units, including: 1,600
Spreading mortar in all positions and on all units, buttering, bonding,
typing, anchoring, reinforcing.
Laying up cement block units; plain or decorative, regular or lightweight
in all positions and functional load-bearing or curtain walls foundations,
grouting.
Laying out all types of block walls veneer, curtain, load bearing
foundations, print reading, planning.

Miscellaneous, including: 340
Stonework; both natural and precast, including cutting and setting
bonding, anchoring, welding and finishing joint; also rigging.
Firebrick, including fireplaces and chimney planning and layout including
safety measures and building codes. Also smoke stack, foundry ovens,
power plant chimneys.
Fireproofing; including laying up party walls, fire walls, plugging wall
penetrations.
Specialties: including glass block, glazed tile, artificial stone, styrofoam
partition tile.
Planning and laying paving units in floor and stair construction.

Sawing of all units; Cleaning, Point-waterproofing and Caulking. 300

Demolition and Repair, including: 400
Toothing-out and replacement of all types of units, in all functions both
structural and decorative.
Cleaning of all units; new and old using water, acidic cleaners and water
or sand blast.
Tuck pointing of all units new and old; including grinding out and
Replacement of joints, rehabilitation, tubbing and patching.
Waterproofing; above and below grade, installing flashing, sealing.
Caulking; control and expansion joints, perimeters of openings, etc.
Cleaning, preparing, priming applying sealants and tooling joints.
Installing backer rod.

Paid Related Instruction 400
