Job Summary:
Under general supervision of the Craftsworker Supervisor, this position performs all the duties of a Sheet Metal Worker including layout, fabrication and installation of sheet metal projects. In addition, this position may direct and instruct helpers and other assistants.

Must have completed an apprenticeship program approved by the State of Wisconsin, Department of Workforce Development, as a Sheet Metal Worker. Persons having informal training and experience equivalent to the formal apprenticeship and journey status may also be accepted upon submission of documented proof of such training and experience.

Schedule Comment:
7:00 am - 3:30 pm Monday through Friday.

Occasional nights, weekends and holidays.

Starting pay is $41.79 to $43.14 per hour depending on leave time selected.

Applicants will be asked to upload a resume and cover letter. To be minimally qualified you must have the Requirement for Journey Level Recognition (see requirements below).
In your cover letter please describe work experience with sheet metal installation and fabrication, work environments you have worked in, material estimating, safety precautions and site conditions. Please list any safety training you may have had. Also in the cover letter, indicate which of the requirements for Journey level recognition you have (see below).

SHEET METAL CERTIFICATION- In order to be eligible to compete and qualify for journey level Sheet Metal vacancies with the University of Wisconsin Madison, you must be a recognized journey level Sheet Metal Worker.
Requirements for Journey Level Recognition:
Journey level (or equivalent) status must be earned by completing at least 10,000 hours of experience in all of the following work processes: Hours
Layout, measuring, detailing, drafting 810

Fabrication 2,250

Construction installation 4,546
- Architectural and/or general outside metal work
- Commercial installation
- Industrial installation
- Residential installation
- Residential gutter, flashing, etc.

Welding or soldering 450

Special processes and miscellaneous 1,440

Formal Apprenticeship: The traditional method of earning journey level status in an apprentice trade is through an indenture between an apprentice, an employer, and, if appropriate, the trade organization. During the term of the indenture, the apprentice would be directly supervised by one or more journey workers. During the indenture, the apprentice would be rotated through all work processes and operations appropriate to the respective trade. Upon recommendation of the supervising journey worker, and approval by an appropriate authority, an apprentice would earn journey worker recognition in the trade in which the indenture was served.
