Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution of higher education

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in construction and project management. Demonstrated experience in managing building projects from inception through construction and closeout. Demonstrated experience in site planning & coordination, good understanding of utilities and MEP coordination, air/water/thermal barriers, experience coordinating design to work within a campus setting, experience in many different functional types, experience in the selection of interior building materials and finishes, space planning, and development of interior details. Demonstrated experience in developing project and construction cost estimates.

License or Certificate:
Valid driver's license and the ability to meet DOA Fleet standards in order to drive state-owned vehicles for the performance of job duties, or ability to provide one's own transportation

Position Summary:
The Division of Facilities Planning & Management, Capital Planning & Development Facilities Engineer, with a working title of `Field Construction Representative', is responsible for construction oversight of consultants, contractors and commissioning providers involved in the design, construction, renovation and commissioning of projects authorized by the State of Wisconsin Building Commission. This position ensures that all construction work performed on University facilities including buildings and physical plant infrastructure is designed, modified and constructed in accordance with regulatory and professional standards.

This position works closely and manages work in collaboration with other departments including other units within Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M), UW System Administration, the Division of Facilities Development, campus divisions and departments, and architectural/engineering consultants. The person in this role will have a high degree of independence.

Additional Information:
Ability to climb stairs, ladders and scaffold and work at heights above 20 feet in order to reach walls, ceilings and other surfaces, to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges for performing outdoor duties in the summer and the winter, and to enter, exit and perform duties in confined spaces.

Ability to utilize protective gear and appropriate safety precautions.

Knowledge to interpret Construction Documents.

Extensive knowledge of Construction Means and Methods of all General Construction.

General knowledge and experience across all disciplines and technical areas including electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems.

Knowledge and experience with problem solving skills including identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Excellent interpersonal, communications, team building and conflict resolution skills.

Time management skills.

Skills and experience in negotiations and collaboration.

Skills in customer service and customer relationship management.

Proficiency in Computer Skills and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Microsoft Outlook.

Ability to successfully manage the oversight of multiple complex projects simultaneously is essential.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with a diverse group of individuals and resolve conflicts in a positive manner.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with design consultants, contractors, project. managers, agency personnel and other members of the project team.
