Assistant Dean Campus Life for Case Management

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Assistant Dean of Campus Life for Case management will work under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Campus Life or designee; is responsible for empowering and assisting students to make healthy choices by assessing individual and community needs; assisting students in resolutions of crisis and concerns; supporting the Campus Life office by coordinating interventions and follow -up (case management) with students of concern, welfare checks, hospital admits/releases, alcohol and substance abuse consults, and other students that require support; performs follow up on referrals to TCU offices (Counseling Center, Health Center, Housing, Wellness, TCUPD, etc.) and external agency referrals; provides organizational upkeep for tracking and documenting attempted and successful interventions.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Provides immediate and on-going support to students in crisis including, but not limited to, interacting with students and their families, student affairs offices, academic units and relevant on and off-campus departments in response to student needs.

Participates in on-call rotation and serves as emergency contact (with three assistant deans) for Residential Life and TCUPD afterhours and weekends throughout the academic year.

Provides students with comprehensive referral services and coordinates services for students who experience medical, emotional, familial and/or behavioral concerns.

Collaborates closely with campus partners to ensure a comprehensive and holistic approach to student needs and services.

Provides on-going safety and support to students, and provides follow up after initial emergency incident.

Communicates outreach efforts to ensure that the university community is aware of the services provided to students including providing presentations and trainings.

Maintains records and documentation regarding work with students.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field of study.
  • 3 plus years' experience working with college students including direct experience with individual crisis management.
  • Experience with case management and case consultation.


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • 5 plus years of professional experience in higher education or related field, working with crisis management, threat assessment and evaluation.


Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Valid Texas Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge to serve as a liaison between the campus community and external agencies and entities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Maxient is required.
  • Knowledge of University and community resources as they relate to victim services.
  • Knowledge of conflict and crisis management techniques.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal communication techniques.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and practice.
  • Ability to keep accurate and timely records.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement regarding student problems, parental and faculty concerns.
  • Ability to build campus partnerships.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with various faculty, staff, students and community entities.
  • Ability to work under stress, perform multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality.


Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment :
  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
