California State University, Dominguez Hills, was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise The California State University system. CSU Dominguez Hills is an urban, comprehensive public university that serves a culturally rich, diverse student body of over 12,500 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a highly pluralistic student body, which includes a significant number of non-traditional, working adult students as well as approximately 2,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs statewide. The University, with its five Academic Colleges, has more than 300 full-time faculty members and is situated in an area characterized by an extraordinary heterogeneity of people, and an extensive array of high technology industries and professional services.

Conditions of Employment:

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Position Information:

This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Department: Facilities Planning, Design and Construction

The Facilities Planning, Design and Construction management department is responsible for the planning, design, and construction of all physical campus facilities and activities including major and minor physical improvements and projects and campus space planning. The department interfaces with the California State University Office of the Chancellor and state and local agencies and works with the university community to plan, develop, and implement major and minor capital construction projects in support of the campus facilities master plan, including building new facilities, renovation of existing facilities, campus space planning, move planning, programming, and design and construction.

Major Job Duties:
Under general direction of the Director, Facilities Planning, Design and Construction, the Project Manager is responsible for the management/coordination of the design and construction of new facilities and renovations at CSUDH, from minor projects to major capital projects. Responsibilities include development of capital project programs, project budgets and project coordination from concept through planning preparation for bidding, construction inspection, and closeout.

Qualifications:
- A working knowledge of laws and regulations governing Public Works, design and construction ordinances, and other regulations applicable to building, construction, maintenance and repair including building codes for the State of California, fire codes, accessibility requirements, Title 24 requirements and other industry standards.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good organizational and information management skills, the ability to administer, manage and track projects with concurrent time lines, and methodical and detailed documentation and record keeping.
- Collaborative and teamwork approach to problem solving; ability to manage competing deadlines; ability to manage projects with a sense of urgency to completing projects, attention to detail, effective time management and follow-through to resolution of open items.
- Ability to represent the department in a professional manner to determine campus customer's needs and design requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work within an ethnically diverse campus environment.
- Proven ability to manage several large numbers of projects in various stages of completion simultaneously.
- Ability to use AutoCAD and project scheduling software and Microsoft Office.
- Able to be self-motivated with responsibilities and duties.

Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to draft or sketch details and concepts for in-office staff, University customers, consultants and contractors.
- Knowledge of CPM scheduling and web-based project management applications.

Certification: Valid driver's license

Specialized Materials:
PC, printer, FAX, car, cart, or other university vehicle, and various software applications related to project management/scheduling; database management, facility/design-related packages.

Experience and Education:
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Preferred Education: A Bachelor of Architecture is preferred or a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture Engineering or Construction Management.
- Licensed Architect, State of California preferred, but not required.

Required Experience: At least five (5) years progressively responsible experience in managing multiple and diverse capital design and construction projects, preferably public works projects. Experience in facilities design and construction management, preparation of bid documents and specifications, contract administration, and fiscal and construction management in a large institutional setting, higher education preferred.

Experience with Design/Bid/Build, Design/Build and CM@Risk construction delivery methods.

Preferred Experience: Experience managing the design and construction of projects in the higher education field, in order of preference with projects in the California State University system, University of California, or other 4-year public or private university, community college, K-12 School District, or other State, County, or City Public Works agencies.
