About the Position

***This position is expected to work Wednesday - Sunday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm***

The Plumber is responsible for providing the full range of skilled plumbing work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems, to ensure a clean, safe and attractive learning environment. Position makes decisions based upon sound maintenance practices.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

-Perform various types of preventive maintenance including: starting/stopping equipment, general cleaning, removing/installing serviceable parts, and lubricating. -Identify problems and needed repairs.
-Complete necessary repairs to plumbing, fixtures, and related equipment as requested by work orders.
-Use hand and power tools for the completion of plumbing fixtures, installations, related repairs, installation/removal of parts and hardware.
-Inspect plumbing, related equipment, systems, and areas to identify problems and needed repairs.
-Disable and clearly identify (lock out and tag out) unsafe equipment, and immediately notify appropriate personnel.
-Report problems and needed repairs to be documented and scheduled.
-Unlock and secure facility areas to access equipment and items to be repaired and/or maintained.
-Consult and work with other trade workers, as needed, for completion of repairs and remodels.
-Operate radio or cellular phone for communication of urgent needs, critical information and status updates.
-Operate utility cart, pick-up truck, torch, welding equipment, scissor lift, and forklift (as certified) to access, repair and transport personnel and/or equipment.
-Record work details in log sheets, and keeps time records to assist in completion of documentation.
-Use computer for communication, for research of parts and associated equipment, documentation of job specific details and recording time logs.
-Respond promptly to and assist with urgent needs in order to prevent injury, damage or further incident.
-Attend and participate in departmental meetings, trainings and functions.
-Maintain clean work areas, tools, equipment and associated structures.
-Use protective equipment as required for personal safety.

Education and Experience

Must possess those abilities normally acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumbers apprenticeship program. Must participate in all OSHA required physicals and examinations.

Preferred Qualifications

-2 years of commercial experience
-2 years of college/university experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

-Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
-Base knowledge of the operation of building automation systems.
-Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes.
-Ability to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems.
-Ability to perform applicable welding work.
-Ability to make rough sketches of plumbing installations, read and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications; and estimate materials and labor cost of standard plumbing maintenance and repair work.
-Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record keeping systems, and prepare standard reports.
-Ability to provide instruction to unskilled and semiskilled assistants.
-Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
-Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
