Job Summary:
Starting pay is based on experience, with a minimum starting rate of $18.03 per hour.

The University of Wisconsin Political Science Department is one of the nation's oldest and most respected programs. It is also one of the largest majors on campus, with a commitment to excellence in research and instruction. The Financial Specialist is directly involved with the financial-related responsibilities associated with the department's research and instructional mission. This position monitors the integrity of complex budgets, creates reports/projections, conducts internal audits as necessary, identified discrepancies and initiates corrective actions.

There are approximately 250 separate accounts for the department and its centers comprised of state funds, grants and gifts accounts including 101, 131, 144, 150, 233 etc. totaling over 7 million dollars. The incumbent coordinates the financial activities for the department's annual operating budget, federal/non-federal awards as well as its foundation and trust funds. This includes providing assistance with establishing new accounts, procurement compliance according to account guidelines and reconciliation of accounts. This position also serves as the site manager for the departments purchasing/travel cards as well as provides support for employee/non-employee travel and reimbursement.
