Diversity & Inclusion Director/Title IX Coord

The University of Saint Joseph is searching for an inaugural Director of Diversity & Inclusion/Title IX Coordinator. This position will provide leadership in the development and implementation of programs that support and promulgate a diverse and inclusive campus culture. This position serves as the official Title IX Coordinator for the University and chairs the Title IX Committee; in this role, the Director will lead Title IX compliance initiatives, reinforcing the University’s dedication to the creation of a safe climate for all community members free from harassment and sexual violence. Collaborate with various departments and functions across the University, including Student Affairs, Human Resources, and Public Safety.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Provide leadership and management of the implementation of diversity and inclusion strategic planning. Provide counsel to senior administration on diversity, inclusion, equity, and access issues and guidelines.
  • Oversee investigations, adjudication, appeals of discrimination and harassment complaints, including those by employees, students, and others protected under state and federal laws and regulations and/or the University’s policies.
  • Develop and maintain relevant communication strategies (web, print, media).
  • Coordinate and oversee the development and implementation of periodic assessments (e.g., surveys) of campus climate related to diversity, inclusion, and sexual misconduct, including sharing results with the University community.
  • Utilize available data to identify patterns or systemic problems related to diversity & inclusion, equity, and sexual misconduct within the University community.
  • Prepare reports as requested by relevant federal and state agencies, and for relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Serve as Chair to relevant committees, such as the Title IX Community Resource Team, Diversity & Inclusion committee, and similar.
  • Act as the University’s Title IX Coordinator.
  • Coordinate all aspects of investigation, response, and resolution of all reports of sexual misconduct impacting students. Ensure that comprehensive reports of investigations with findings of fact and recommendation(s) are completed in a timely manner.
  • Review and provide updates to University policies and procedures for compliance with diversity, inclusion, equity, and access requirements.
  • Assist with the development of policies and programs to attract, retain and promote a diverse workforce and student body.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree, J.D., or other advanced degree in a related field from an accredited institution is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in legal, student conduct, student affairs, human resources, compliance, civil rights or similar field required.
  • Experience related to Title IX, VAWA, Clery Act, Title VII, EEO/AA, and/or other federal or state non-discrimination laws; Title IX certification preferred.
  • Expertise in complaint resolution, investigations, grievances and/or policy administration.
  • Experience designing and executing training and education for multiple constituencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current state and federal laws and regulations, institution-specific policies, practices and procedures, identified best practices and trends in the field of education related to harassment, sexual assault, and other discriminatory practices that violate Title VII, Title IX, or other state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and employee population.
  • Ability to build trust, resolve conflicts, and navigate difficult conversations.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, and negotiation skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to engage positively and work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the University professionally to the public.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
