Tech I/II/III, Lab

Provides technical support within a lab in support of research, projects, outreach, and instruction.

Essential Functions:

(1) Maintains and conducts routine and specialized laboratory experiments and analysis, including but not limited to polymerase chain reactions (PCRs), gel electrophoresis, and targeted capture for next generation sequencing (gene panel/exome/genome sequencing).
(2) Prepares shipments of samples for external services (i.e. sequencing) and collaborations.
(3) Responsible for genetic variant validation and the organization of data to be reported back to study participants.
(4) Helps compose research reports to be sent to study participants.
(5) Carries out routine DNA extractions for storage in the laboratory's biobank.
(6) Coordinates the availability, use, and maintenance of the laboratory's biobank, as well as equipment, materials, and/or key inventories.
(7) Assists others by providing expertise and advice concerning laboratory experiments, operation, and safety.
(8) May collect and analyze data and perform observations for analysis.
(9) May oversee and train graduate and undergraduate students in the proper use of equipment and supplies.
(10) May coordinate with industry and/or other university researchers and provide input on experimental designs and practical implications of research results.
(11) May assist in study participant recruitment and enrollment efforts, as well as stemming data entry/organization.
(12) May contribute towards the preparation/writing of research papers.

Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include (1) experience with DNA extractions and PCR with exceptional laboratory techniques; (2) education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution in Biology or similar field; (3) previous human research experience and ethics training; (4) experience working with a research team; (5) experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and, Powerpoint, and Adobe Acrobat; (6) exceptional organizational skills and detail-oriented.
