Position Description:
The Emergency Facilities Operations Pool is intended for qualified applicants to be called upon for temporary appointments in various operations areas on campus on an as-needed basis.

Should your application be reviewed and you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by the department. Depending on departmental needs, interviews may be conducted at any time while the Emergency Facilities Operations Pool is open.

Hourly, emergency appointments vary in classification, salary, and length and provide varying levels of support for Facilities Operations departments.

Facilities Operations is dedicated to providing a safe and operational campus environment including: buildings, roads, parking lots, lighting, utilities, sidewalks, waterways and landscaping, fleet support, event support, and surplus property distribution. Operations is made up of the following organizational areas: Custodial Services, Building Maintenance, Landscape Services, Fleet Services, and Surplus property.

Incumbents typically respond to daily service calls; perform routine preventive maintenance functions for facilities and systems; set up jobs and perform the manual labor preparation; clean, maintain and repair fixtures, equipment and appliances; assist in the installation of facility and systems materials, fixtures and mechanical equipment; assist in electrical work; assist in maintenance and repair of electrical lines and fixtures; assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing and HVAC systems; assist in facilities renovations and new construction; assist in painting buildings and equipment; participate in construction site/remodel tear down and set up; make simple interior and exterior repairs; make standard furniture and carpet repairs; and perform related facilities and systems support functions.


Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of experience and training equivalent to six months of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, or six months of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair work.

Required Qualifications:
NEEDS WILL DIFFER DEPENDING ON ASSIGNMENT. DESIRED SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES MAY INCLUDE ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Knowledge - Work requires working knowledge of the common terminology, methods, practices, tools and procedures
related to building and facilities services, maintenance and repair and/or a base knowledge of a building/construction
or mechanical trade.

Abilities - Must be able to perform proficiently a variety of semi-skilled facilities maintenance and repair tasks;
operate all applicable tools, equipment and systems; follow standard written instructions and procedures; read and
write at a level appropriate to the position; perform simple arithmetic calculations as required by the position; and
demonstrate the ability to learn maintenance and repair functions. All positions require the performance of strenuous
manual labor.

Experience - These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of experience and training equivalent
to six months of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, or six months of hands-on experience in general
facilities and systems maintenance and repair work.

ALL APPLICANTS FROM PREVIOUS EMERGENCY CLERICAL POOLS MUST RE-APPLY WITH AN UPDATED ONLINE APPLICATION.

This position may require the ability to obtain AHERA Contractor/Supervisor certification for Asbestos Related Work with annual refresher training and Cal/OSHA Lead in Construction training with annual retraining, as well as, the ability to wear respiratory protection appropriate for the hazard encountered. A Cal/OSHA mandated medical evaluation is required prior to the use of a respirator.

Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the Executive Order 1083 requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
