Associate Director, Office of Undergraduate Studies (Internal Search)

Position Description:

The University of Northern Iowa is accepting internal applications for Associate Director of the Office of Undergraduate Studies. This position supports and assists in advancing the University vision, mission and strategic plan in relation to academic affairs activities; assists in providing oversight of the Office of Academic Advising, University Honors Program, Community Engagement, General Education, individual and course embedded academic support services, and academic assessment; supervises staff; provides leadership for strategic initiatives, including working with partners across divisions on joint student success initiatives; provides leadership for meeting goals of the university strategic plan for undergraduate education, including assisting with the development and implementation of student success and engaged learning efforts at UNI; provides campus-wide leadership on general education related student requests, assessment, and curriculum matters; and represents the Provost's office on multiple initiatives and university committees.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversees student support initiatives including course-embedded and individual academic coaching; works closely with various offices across campus, including Undergraduate Studies, Student Success and Retention, Academic Advising, Department of Residence, University Honors Program, Student Support Services, Rod Library, etc., to develop and implement peer educator leadership experiences that support learning and professional development; provides leadership to academic support personnel; develops and oversees budget allocation for academic support initiatives in collaboration with the Executive Director of Undergraduate Studies.

2. In collaboration with the Executive Director for Undergraduate Studies, the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, the University Honors Program, the Office of Community Engagement, Rod Library and various offices within Student Affairs, advances engaged and applied learning experiences at the University of Northern Iowa; elevates innovation and creativity and diversity and inclusion as key elements in student engagement and success; and collaborates with Academic and Student Affairs to develop and implement a comprehensive system to define, track, and measure engaged learning at the University of Northern Iowa;

3. Works in collaboration with the Executive Director's leadership team in researching and implementing best practices for student support; provides leadership and collaborates with others within and beyond Undergraduate Studies on research projects, presentations, and publications focused on the effectiveness of student learning; and leads grant writing efforts to secure internal and external funding for Undergraduate Studies' initiatives.

4. Assists the Executive Director in overseeing the administrative functions related to general education; supports faculty by managing administrative processes associated general education curriculum changes; maintains the general education advising guide; provides leadership and administrative support to general education assessment initiatives; and collaborates with the Associate Provost of Academic Affairs on general education related student requests.

5. Collaborates with the Executive Director of Undergraduate Studies and the Director of Institutional Research in leading university-wide assessment initiatives including leading workshops, providing academic program assessment consultations, and serving on the Assessment Council.

6. As Associate Director, collaborates with the Executive Director to develop and implement a vision, mission, and strategic plan for the division of Undergraduate Studies; works to increase the visibility of Undergraduate Studies and related offices and programs (Office of Academic Advising, Honors Program, Community Engagement, Student Support Services, the University Honors Program, academic support services, course-embedded peer mentoring, and general education) to internal and external stakeholders by working with faculty, staff and students across divisions.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

Doctorate or other terminal degree required.

Required Qualifications:

Rank of Associate Professor; at least two years of experience in higher education leadership; demonstrated knowledge of and skills related to academic program and general education assessment; demonstrated ability to mentor others in assessment activities; understanding of and experience with academic program development including management of curriculum processes; demonstrated commitment to cross-divisional collaboration and student success initiatives; experience with training and working with peer educators and advising; evidence of research and scholarly record over a period of time; demonstrated ability to mentor others in scholarship; experience in writing and applying for externally and internally funded grants; ability to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion; experience with college/university policies and procedures, as well as current trends in higher education; outstanding communication skills in writing, speaking, and listening; commitment to diversity and inclusion and affirmative action and equal opportunity principles also required.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with first-year college and K-12 teaching experience.
