Bookstore Events and Outreach Assistant

BOOKSTORE EVENTS AND OUTREACH ASSISTANT, MIT Press Bookstore (part-time, 21 hrs/wk.), to coordinate the bookstore's community outreach and marketing efforts, including the planning, promotion, and execution of the authors@mit lecture series. Responsibilities include working with a team to identify candidates for the lecture series; communicating with authors and community groups to develop the schedule for the event series; identifying and collaborating with event cosponsors; producing marketing materials and executing a promotional plan for the lecture series; working with bookstore staff on event logistics; managing RSVPs and ticket sales; representing the bookstore at events; working with the bookstore manager to design and implement a bookstore promotion plan; collaborating on the coordination of in-store displays/promotions/special offer and on developing an outreach strategy; fostering MIT relationships and community partnerships; promoting the bookstore's Espresso Book Machine program; providing website and social media content updates; directing the production of a monthly newsletter; maintaining the bookstore's mailing list; and other duties as needed.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: high school diploma; three years' related experience; strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; experience working as part of a team; initiative; ability to shift priorities, juggle multiple projects, work independently, anticipate needs, and build and leverage internal/external relationships; attention to detail; experience with event production; comfort handling A/V systems; experience with social media including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; familiarity with WordPress, MailChimp, Eventbrite, InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; and ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 lbs. Familiarity with Press' publications and MIT helpful, as is active interest in scholarly or nonfiction publishing. Secondary education and a background in literary, scholarly, arts, or other nonprofit setting beneficial. Retail or bookselling experience preferred. Job #15967-5
