Position Category: Faculty - Tenure Track (FT)

Summary:
The Department of Construction Technologies (CT) at Utah Valley University (UVU) is seeking applicants for a construction management tenure-track faculty position. Faculty at UVU are required to primarily teach, pursue scholarly endeavors, and contribute service to their discipline and the University. Faculty members are also required to advise students and to interact with local businesses/industries related to their discipline. Teaching assignments will be from a wide range of Construction Management topics. Faculty are expected to have current professional knowledge of the construction management and related fields

Required Qualifications:
  • 5 years of construction management experience with heavy civil projects
  • PhD, from an accredited institution, in construction engineering/construction management or related fields with an emphasis on heavy civil construction, or masters degree in construction engineering/construction management with significant experience (a minimum of 7 years)
  • Knowledge and skills in current theories, strategies, and techniques in construction project management.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and experience in the areas of:

  • Contracts-Scope of Work, Bonds, Employment, etc.
  • Project Management Controls
  • Estimating and Scheduling
  • Heavy Equipment Scheduling and Maintenance
  • Maintenance of Traffic
  • Proposal (RFP) Preparation
  • Sequencing Materials and Methods, Site Management
  • Skills in communication, interpersonal problem solving, and decision-making
  • Skills in presentation of course materials and learning experiences
  • Skills in teaching subjects related to heavy civil construction
  • Ability to work with student organizations and manage events
  • Ability to work with the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly growing and dynamic institution
  • Ability to develop and teach a wide range of courses in construction management
  • Ability to pursue and obtain industry support for various activities
  • Ability to work closely with other programs and departments in a collegial manner.

Licenses/Certifications
Eligible and willing to pursue faculty development opportunities (conference attendance, certifications in construction related specialties. The position also requires participation in activities dealing with construction associations (Beavers, ACI, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Knowledge of contracts and contract delivery methods
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, advising, scholarly activities, and service
  • Industry utilized standard software dealing with scheduling and bidding
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently


Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to perform faculty duties, occasional lifting and various laboratory duties.
