Assistant to the Director - GEAR UP Programs


The Assistant to the Director of St. John's University NYGEAR UP/GEAR UP reports directly to the GEAR UP Program Director.

The responsibilities of the Assistant to the Director for the St. John's University GEAR UP Programs includes (but are not limited to):

  • Plans with the GEAR UP Program Director to implement all GEAR UP goals and objectives
  • Collects GEAR UP related data such as academic transcripts for students attending partner schools
  • Serves as a liaison at the partner high school
  • Provides academic advisement and tutoring to target participants
  • Assists with the facilitation of the MAAX program at the target high school
  • Coordinates project mailings to participants, their families, and project partners
  • Assists in coordinating with other divisions, departments, and programs at St. John's University to provide activities for GEAR UP students
  • Attends National, State, and local GEAR UP conferences as needed
  • Attends GEAR UP related activities on evenings and weekends as needed
  • Assures proper documentation and data entry of program services that will assist in the external audits conducted by the funding agency HESC and USDOE
  • Assists in maintaining payroll records for project staff
  • Assists with creating staff schedules
  • All other duties and assignments assigned by the project Director


Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma and some College (at least 1 year)
  • At least two years of experience working in a secondary or Higher Education setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing and typing skills
  • Prior office experience in a professional office environment
  • Must be extremely organized and able to multitask
  • Excellent project and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required


Salary: $30,000
