International Student Recruitment Specialist



Function:
This position leads international student recruitment efforts for Elgin Community College by recruiting, maintaining, and developing relationships with international student recruitment agents, international partners, potential students and their families, and formulating and executing strategic recruitment plans to meet the college's enrollment goals. This position also provides timely responses to international student inquiries, guides prospective students through the enrollment cycle, and maintains an international recruitment strategy to recruit and enroll qualified students to the College.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate multi-faceted international student recruitment plan, in consultation with the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) (Director of International Education and Programs), to meet specific enrollment targets.

2. Recruits, initiates contact, and establishes relationships with potential new international student recruitment agents who meet the criteria as outlined in the International Recruitment Consultants Evaluation Procedure, international high schools and universities, and international recruitment providers to increase international student enrollment to meet enrollment and recruitment targets.

3. Orient, mentor, liaise with agents and international partners regarding ECC international admission requirements, processes, programs, and activities, answer questions from agents, and ensure ongoing positive partner relations to increase international student enrollment.

4. Recruit international students by answering student inquiries and assisting students through the enrollment cycle, maintaining compliance with F-1 and J-1 federal visa regulations as outlined by 8 CFR 214.2(f).

5. Coordinate recruitment fee invoices and work with administrative assistant to ensure invoices are processed according to the International Student Recruitment Agreement.

6. Interface with Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. embassy officials/officers, and USCIS officials as needed to assist students in securing visas and answering questions about required documents (e.g. Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-160; currency conversions for financial statements from non-US banks).

7. Collect and review documents from potential new students in accordance with international admissions guidelines, 8 CFR 214.2(f), and ECC international education procedures. Communicate required documents for international student admissions to partners and students. Assist with new student orientation and onboarding activities for international students. Work collaboratively with staff in International Education and Programs to ensure admission documents are received in an efficient and timely manner.

8. Collaborate with PDSO to develop service and learning outcomes for recruitment activities. Analyze recruitment initiatives, results, and modify practices to promote effective and efficient use of college resources.

9. Analyze and interpret International Education and Programs department data from multiple sources. Create spreadsheets and reports as needed.

10. Serve as back up to the administrative assistant in the department.

Physical Demands:

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

2. Minimum of one-year experience in higher education.

3. Understanding of the international student recruitment cycle, from inquiry to enrollment and registration.

4. Ability to understand, implement, and remain current on F-1 and J-1 federal visa regulations.

5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail while taking initiative and working collaboratively in a team environment.

6. Engaging presentation skills for large and small groups.

7. Ability to relate to prospective students from a wide range of ages, ethnicities, educational and cultural backgrounds.

8. Competence in working with Department of Homeland Security/USCIS/Department of State officials and representatives with the F-1 and J-1 international student admissions process and visa regulations.

9. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups both internal and external to the organization.

10. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

11. Strong communication and organization skills.

12. Ability to perform data analysis

13. Ability to provide excellent service to students and work collaboratively to meet the needs of the department.

14. Knowledge of currency conversions and ability to use online tools to determine currency conversions to U.S. currency.

15. Ability to remain current on federal visa and immigration regulations (specifically 8 CFR 214.2(f)).

16. Understanding of best practices in new student recruitment, with special focus on recruitment of international students.

17. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed by the department.

18. Ability to learn, navigate, and effectively use Terra Dotta application software.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Experience in higher education in international education or international student recruitment.

2. Experience utilizing Terra Dotta application software.
