Position Summary:

The Application Support Specialist is a liaison between the college's business operations and the Information Technology Department (IT). The business operational areas include the Business Office, Payroll Services and the Purchasing and Contracts Office. The Application Support Specialist works with the college's ERP system processes and the supporting auxiliary system interfaces, including Application Manager, e-pay and procurement. Position is responsible for developing and automating reports and processes using the institution's technical tools to streamline workflow and improve efficiency. Performs other job related duties relative to the area of responsibility.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as IT technical support for Business Office, Payroll Services and Purchasing and Contracts Office for all software systems and web-based applications.



Perform various IT functions; including SQL Developer, applications manager, some programming, spreadsheets, word processing and create/oversee preparation and electronic transmissions of various reports.



Assist with maintaining the institutional website for the Business Office, Payroll Services and Purchasing and Contracts Office.



Serves as liaison with TBR system analysts to correct and resolve problems related to Banner financial, payroll and purchasing systems.



Collaborate with IT staff concerning information systems changes, upgrades, and installations; assist programmers with pre-implementation analysis and testing; train departmental staff to process data as system changes are implemented.



Provide technical support to other departments as it relates to financial information; including data analysis, extracting Banner reports as needed, and managing processes in the Banner system.



Identify jobs/processes that could be automated and work collaboratively with IT on their automation through appropriate software and workflows.



Assist Business Office, Payroll Services and Purchasing and Contracts Office with development of reports, workflow, and Application Manager chains as necessary; review reports developed by other users and offer technical guidance and support.



Assist the Business Office, Payroll Services and Purchasing and Contracts Office with documenting system processes to assist with audit documentation and cross training.



Establish and maintain rules, validation tables and other operating parameters in Banner as related to Business Office, Payroll Services and Purchasing and Contracts Office operations.



Assist Business Office, Payroll Services and Purchasing and Contracts staff with writing query reports as well as the preparation of scheduled and ad-hoc reports as required.



Maintains a general knowledge of federal, state, and institutional requirements regarding the Business Office, Payroll Services and Purchasing and Contracts Office.



Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in computer information systems, computer technology or related field from an accredited institution and 1 year of full-time work experience in IT operations or related field. OR Associate's Degree in computer information systems, computer technology or related field from an accredited institution and 3 years of full-time work experience in IT operations or related field. OR An Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in another field with 5 years of IT experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a business office or higher education setting. Experience working with Ellucian Banner.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Work Characteristics: Knowledge of electronic relational database applications, systems and management. Intermediate to advance knowledge with Microsoft Office applications, Internet and web base system. Skills in report writing and SQL (ARGOS) and HTML. Skills with Application Manager. Experience working with interfaces to and from electronic relational databases. Ability to learn and implement new software packages. Ability to troubleshoot, recognize and solve problems with software programs for end users. Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) Skills in oral and written communications; office management skills, interpersonal skills consistent with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to remain current in TBR and VSCC guidelines and policies, federal regulations, state regulations and technology. Confident in using own initiative, prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines. Ability to accurately write, modify, test, and document report requests. Ability to manage projects skillfully and to establish priorities and meet objectives. Ability to read and utilize technical manuals. Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to understand and use web-based application software. Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical staff to derive solutions to technology issues. Ability to initiate objectives with minimal supervision. Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situation and making decisions.

Pay Rate: 40,200.00 - 48,743.00 annual salary depending on experience
