(2) Lecturers, Parks/Rec and Tourism

The Hainan University-Arizona State University International Tourism College is seeking two full-time, 9-month lecturers in parks and recreation management and tourism management. These positions will be permanently based in Haikou, Hainan, China.

School Information

Hainan University is a comprehensive provincial university in Haikou, Hainan. It is one of the “211 Project” key universities. HAITC is an innovative joint college and the first domestic Sino-foreign cooperative tourism institution approve by China’s Ministry of Education. Currently offering three dual degree programs, the college began in Fall 2017 with over 263 students.  Courses are taught by both HNU and ASU faculty.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to teach four courses per semester at the undergraduate level, deliver excellent in-class instruction at the undergraduate level and participate in service activities for the college, profession and community. The appointment will begin August 16, 2018.

About the Job

  • Salary will be paid in U.S. dollars, equivalent to the salary of an ASU faculty member in School of Community Resources & Development
  • All course instruction will be in English

Required Qualifications-Parks and Recreation Management

  • Earned master’s degree in recreation, tourism, leisure studies, geography or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment;
  • Undergraduate teaching experience;
  • Knowledge of parks and recreation management;
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse populations;
  • Fluent in English

Desired Qualifications-Parks and Recreation Management

  • Doctorate in a closely aligned field;
  • Preference will also be given to applicants with: 1) experience teaching undergraduate parks and recreation related classes; 2) experience working in park or recreation management; 3) professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom; 4) and expertise in one or more specialties such as leisure, community services and professions, recreation programming, or recreation facility management

 

Required Qualifications-Tourism Management

  • Earned master’s degree in tourism management, recreation, leisure studies, geography, business, or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment;
  • Undergraduate teaching experience;
  • Knowledge of the tourism and hospitality industry;
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse populations;
  • Fluent in English

Desired Qualifications-Tourism Management

  • Doctorate in a closely aligned field;
  • Preference will also be given to applicants with: 1) experience teaching undergraduate tourism related classes; 2) experience working in the tourism industry; 3) professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom; 4) and expertise in one or more specialties such as leisure, community services and professions, intro to tourism, and tourism management
