Program Coordinator - Nurse Intervener

The UC College of Nursing: is seeking time limited, part-time nurse intervener position supporting the Caregiver Self-Management Needs through Skill-Building project (UC IRB Study # 2016-8508). The primary purpose of this project is to make improvements to a program that addresses the needs and concerns of family caregivers of stroke survivors. The Telephone Assessment and Skill-Building Kit (TASK II) for stroke family caregivers is being revised to a TASK III version that uses various modes of technology (TASK III website, eBook), and that provides a stronger emphasis on caregiver health.

Position: In Phase I of the project, focus groups and individual interviews will be conducted with 40 experts (interdisciplinary researchers, technology experts, clinicians and clinical leaders, and family caregivers of stroke survivors) to make refinements to the TASK III program. In Phase II, 74 stroke caregivers will be randomized to the TASK III group or to an Information, Support, and Referral (ISR) comparison group (37/group). Both groups will receive 8 weekly calls from a nurse, with a booster call a month later. Data collection calls will be made by a blinded data collector at baseline (within 8 weeks after discharge home), 8 weeks (end of intervention), and 12 weeks (after booster session). Findings will be used to apply for a larger grant. Long-term, our hopes are to provide the evidence needed to implement the TASK III program into ongoing stroke systems of care.
