IT Project Manager II

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The IT Project Manager II within the UCIT Project Management Office will coordinate, plan, support and execute large, complex projects often involving resources from multiple areas of the University. Responsible for managing the complex workload with shifting priorities for a diverse team of individuals. Ultimately responsible for the completion of projects on time, within budget and of high quality.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works proficiently and creatively with customers to define project scope, goals and objectives
  • Identifies and analyzes business and system requirements, performing functional analysis and making subsequent recommendations defining project scope, requirements, deliverables, and solutions to increase efficiencies
  • Manages project budgets and budget constraints
  • Establishes, monitors and maintains schedules/project timelines, also setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities and monitoring and summarizing the project progress
  • Facilitates and conducts project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analyses
  • Coordinates project activities and schedules, ensuring all project phases are appropriately executed, documented, and adhere to quality standards, University policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Identifies issues, resolutions, risks, and mitigations, and works to solve difficult problems, resolve conflicts, and deal effectively with constituents
  • Creates project status reports, often for upper management, and provides formal presentations
  • Other related duties as assigned


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related degree and four (4) years of experience; or an Associate's degree with six (6) years of experience; or a combination of relevant education and eight (8) years of experience. Experience includes intermediate to advanced level project management experience. Possesses a thorough understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures related project management; contributes through experience, collaboration, and problem resolution.

IDEAL/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ideal candidates will possess a PMP certification or PMP-ACP certification, with experience managing and leading multi-year projects, utilizing the PMI framework and methodologies in a higher education environment. Experience working in an Agile environment, managing projects using Agile methodologies such as Scrum is desirable.Experience using Team Dynamix software to manage projects and portfolios is ideal.

Also seeking individuals with:
  • Familiarity with standard information system development concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Understanding of accomplishing initiatives utilizing an established governance structure
  • Experience managing projects with resources from multiple areas internal and external to IT
  • Business analytical skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience and vice a versa being essential
  • Resilient problem solving and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to thrive in a teamwork environment
  • Strong attention to detail with solid organizational skills
  • Customer relationship management skills
  • Desire to learn and support accessibility initiatives
