Degree and area of specialization:
Master's Degree required, preferably in biochemistry, cell and/or molecular biology, genetics or immunology.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum of 2 years prior experience with cell culture and molecular biology and/or biochemistry is required. Experience with immunofluorescence staining of cells or tissues, western blot, co-IPs, RNA/Protein extraction, PCR/qPCR, confocal microscopy, and image analysis is strongly preferred. Additionally, applicants who have at least 1 year of experience with mouse husbandry and tissue dissection is preferred. Applicants must be willing to learn and conduct metabolic and pharmacological studies using mice.

Position Summary:
A laboratory in the Department of Biomolecular Chemistry/Medicine Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is interested in uncovering the mechanisms by which inflammation, stress and unfolded proteins case diabetes. The laboratory has generated several mouse models that alter the unfolded protein response gene expression in pancreatic beta cells, and aims to determine how the loss of function of these genes affect the progression of diabetes.
