Job Summary:
This is an entry level position assisting professional veterinary medical personnel in routine and complex anesthesia procedures in support of the daily operational needs of the UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). Employees work with both small and large animal patients in Anesthesia with back-up support to the Critical Care Unit. Employes are involved with decision-making responsibilities which can affect the quality/outcome of animal life. Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1) Learns and develops proficiency in technical skills utilized in assigned area for quality patient care.

2) Participates in overview/coordination of daily anesthesia schedule for both large and small animal patients.

3) Participates in weekly case discussions to enhance knowledge and case management skills.

4) Develops the ability to anticipate and initiate the needs of clinical faculty and staff during procedures and to meet daily operational needs.

The work is performed under direct supervision.

Requirements:
Certification as Wisconsin Veterinary Technician

Additional Requirements:
Highly qualified candidates will possess the following: a minimum of 1 yr experience providing anesthesia, including the ability to provide anesthesia to a variety of species of animals; ability to assist with instruction of 4th yr students, ability to make independent decisions which can affect the quality/outcome of animal life; function calmly in stressful life and death situations; possess excellent communication and technical skills; knowledge of physiologic monitors used in anesthesia.

Requires ability to lift 50 lbs independently and the physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.

Special consideration given to: Technicians with Veterinary Technician Specialty in Anesthesia (VTS).


Schedule Comment:
Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, including a 30 minute lunch.
This position is required to work approximately 2-4 on-call 12 hour shifts/month and some holiday on-call. On-call requires you to report for work within 30 minutes for emergency veterinary services provided by the UWVC.
