Financial Assistant 1 (UCP 1)


The University of Connecticut School of Nursing seeks qualified applicants for the position of Financial Assistant 1 (UCP 1) to assist with all functions within the Office of Financial Services. Under the supervision of the Fiscal Manager, the incumbent will process and maintain financial transactions and records for the School of Nursing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Scan, organize, submit and maintain fiscal documents for the School including purchasing, travel, and other disbursements.
  2. Analyze, verify, and enter details of transactions such as invoices, requisitions, reimbursements and other disbursements in accordance with state, university, and school policies and procedures.
  3. Verify and approve payment requests and internal billing documents.
  4. Assist with reviewing and closing purchase orders.
  5. Assist with placing orders and following up with vendors to resolve problems and assure timely delivery.
  6. Assist with managing departmental accounts, including account creation and adjustments.
  7. Monitor accounts receivables and follow up with outstanding payments.
  8. Set up new vendors for payments and reimbursements.
  9. Assist faculty, staff, and students with organizing travel and processing travel reimbursements.
  10. Prepare and distribute invoices as needed.
  11. Provide data to the Fiscal Manager for budget preparation.
  12. Responsible for special payroll hire requests and associated paperwork, and may work within Core-CT as needed.
  13. Assist with general questions and support from faculty, staff and students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Associates degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or related field.
  2. Two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  3. Proven ability to understand and follow technical instructions, policies and procedures.
  4. Demonstrated ability to analyze and compile date for reports.
  5. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot financial or other similar situations.
  6. Must be proficient in the use of computers and have working knowledge of office equipment and applications such as spreadsheets, databases, and financial software.
  7. Must show evidence of data entry, data management, and record keeping skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field.
  2. Experience working in financial settings in higher education.
  3. Must be accurate and detail oriented with thorough knowledge of basic accounting and office procedures.
  4. Must be organized, and able to multi-task and prioritize.
  5. Must be proficient in the Microsoft office suite, and be experienced in financial and HR systems such as Kuali Financial Systems, Core-CT, and UConn SPAR
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning financial, HR, and payroll systems and actions.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month position with an anticipated start date of March 30, 2018. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
