Financial Accounts Analyst

PAY GRADE: 31E
DEADLINE: Open until Filled

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
The Controller's Office performs official financial duties for the University of Delaware. The department provides and maintains the official accounting records and related systems of internal control in accordance with accounting principles and standards set by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), University policy and procedures, the requirements of federal and state governmental agencies, and external funding sources. The department is also responsible for maintaining the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions and oversees both internal and external financial reporting. Under the general direction of the Manager, the Financial Accounts Analyst is responsible for the control and maintenance of the University's chart of accounts and account code structure. The Financial Accounts Analyst is also responsible for the preparation of financial analysis and management reports, and also provides technical knowledge of PeopleSoft accounting system to the campus. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create new chart of accounts chartfields in accordance with University policy to support and ensure proper accounting and financial reporting. Provide leadership, support and training to chart of accounts team by providing support to the Budget and Research offices as they create new chartfield values.
  • Assure proper row level security is applied to new purpose codes in accordance with University and/or departmental practices.
  • Maintain and conduct periodic audit of the University's chart of accounts tables, row level security table, and selected UD Financials trees.
  • Assure compliance with University policy when approving purpose code approvers.
  • Grant UD Financials access to all new users, update access for transfers within the University and delete access as individuals terminate employment with the University. Access could include UD Financials query and UDataGlance. Assist with security issues such as creation of new roles, permissions granted, trouble-shooting failures in secured access, etc. as needed.
  • Review the various system-generated data processing reports daily. Analyze the results to determine if the financial data in the financial production (FIPRD) and financial reporting (FIRPT) environments is accurate. Identify the cause for any discrepancy. Develop campus-wide communication to advise the University community of data inconsistencies and/or system issues and their expected resolution. Perform existing or create additional monitoring procedures to verify the accuracy and integrity of PeopleSoft/UD Financials data.
  • Resolve daily production issues that occur by working with internal staff and other departments such as Accounts Payable, Research Office, Human Resources, Student Services and the Budget Office. Act as liaison with Information Technology when necessary.
  • Review prepare and process upload journals, flat file and spreadsheet, into the General Ledger. Maintain documentation with detailed journal information.
  • Run various financial data verification queries to identify potential errors. Analyze results and recommend or process required changes.
  • Manage the month end and fiscal year end close processes including coordination with departments across campus to ensure all financial processing has occurred.
  • Complete an audit of journal vouchers on a monthly basis.
  • Perform analytical procedures around purpose and account balances and report results.
  • Provide support for financial systems including implementations, upgrades and enhancements.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree with at least five years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in accounting preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computerized general ledger systems, PeopleSoft Financials is preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to query and analyze data from multiple sources, to compile information and prepare reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral, and interact well with people of all levels and diverse backgrounds.
  • Accounting, analysis and/or reporting experience.
  • Knowledge of internal control system and procedures.
  • Problem solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to make evaluative judgments required.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, handle multiple tasks with deadlines and pressure, and adjust work schedules to meet deadlines.
