The University of North Texas College of Music announces a search for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in Popular/Commercial Music in the Division of Jazz Studies. We seek a colleague who will join our efforts to prepare students for the wide variety of roles in the music profession they will encounter upon graduation. With jazz performance, composition, and arranging as a foundation, our students are successful and competitive in diverse styles of jazz, popular music, music for media, and music production. Duties will include: teaching courses in popular/commercial music performance, including songwriting and music production, and courses in the analysis and history of popular music; teach courses in music technology that will enable our students to achieve professional results in composition, recording, post-production, and notation with affordable software and equipment; directing and/or coordinating popular/commercial music ensembles; recruiting excellent undergraduate and graduate students with interests in popular/commercial music; research/creative activity and service activities commensurate with a tenure-track position in a Carnegie Research 1 institution; serving on divisional/college/university committees; and other duties as assigned by the Division and/or College. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Deadline: consideration of applications will begin February 1, 2018 and will continue until the search is closed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in music or related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in music desirable.
