Manager of Upward Bound



Function:
Manage educational support services and activities associated with the Upward Bound Program, to ensure support services for disadvantaged students served under the Upward Bound grant. Handle grant administration to include hiring, training and supervising project staff, providing direct services to participants, program development and fiscal management.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate and implement all activities and services necessary to achieve project objectives. Develop and coordinate cultural social and personal growth opportunities for students.

2. Assist Upward Bound management with the recruitment, hiring and training of program staff and instructors.

3. Develop, coordinate and implement Upward Bound academic programs and support services. Coordinate workshops and individual/group activities for financial aid, college/career-related information and completion of program applications.

4. Assist management in the development of enrichment seminars and activities for students and provide seminar instruction as appropriate.

5. Collect data for annual reports.

6. Research and prepare proposals for grant funded projects.

1. Make informational presentations to target high schools, parents, the community, and Elgin Community College to promote Upward Bound program initiatives.

Physical Demands:
Light Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Position requires close visual acuity to perform activities (i.e. preparing/analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes).

Moderate noise.

Typical office or administrative conditions (i.e. not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions).

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

2. Three years experience in post-secondary education, social work or related fields.

3. Demonstrated ability to coordinate academic support programs for target population.

4. Organization skills.

5. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, Excel and Outlook).

6. Strong oral and written communication skills.

7. Well rounded knowledge of Higher Education and institutional process. Knowledge of grant requirements and the ability to interact with a diverse student and staff population.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Master's Degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology or related field.

2. Previous work experience working with disadvantaged students.
