Multimedia Specialist-Research

PAY GRADE: 29E

CONTEXT OF THE JOB

The University of Delaware's Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) is looking for a proven multimedia specialist to tell the stories of our innovators and their discoveries through video.

Under the general direction of the Director for Research Communications and reporting to the Creative Director, the research videographer is responsible for the creation, management and distribution of high-quality video of the University's researchers, their discoveries and innovations. Projects may include mini-documentaries, video profiles and educational videos for packaging with UDaily news stories, for broadcast on the National Science Foundation's Knowledge Network and Science360 News Service, and for presentation on the University's homepage, YouTube, Facebook and other social media platforms.

This position will help increase UD's research multimedia presence online and also will assist in fostering connections between UD research experts and a variety of external audiences (e.g., public interested in science, media, K-12 classrooms, prospective students, alumni) through broadcast/streaming events.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sets strategy for research video storytelling, production and distribution in collaboration with OCM team members.
  • Creates, produces and posts video and audio features, including conducting interviews with sources such as research faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students on camera.
  • Oversees production of online programming in the research realm, including web streaming, live conference/symposium presentations and field research reports.
  • Ensures compliance with University video and brand standards.
  • Assists in evaluating the impact and effectiveness of digital initiatives using a variety of engagement monitoring and analytics tools.
  • Develops protocols and advises campus colleagues on best practices in research video development.
  • Provides annual multimedia budget recommendations for enhancing public awareness and engagement with research and discovery topics.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates student videographers and interns, as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in audio/visual communications, design, production or journalism and minimum of five years' related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong research/science acumen with demonstrated ability to transform complex research topics into engaging video stories.
  • Ability to create, compose, edit video scripts and storyboards, and perform editorial research.
  • Proficiency with video production software including Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro.
  • Expertise and mastery of video production process, camera operation, different camera and lens types, proper filming techniques, lighting design, microphones and post-production.
  • Experience covering live events.
  • Understanding of technical requirements for delivery of assets on various distribution channels.
  • Strong knowledge of current and emerging audio/video technologies, live streaming, multimedia communications and engagement monitoring/analysis.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Significant independent judgment and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
