Senior Systems Administrator - Tufts Technology Services

As a senior member of the Enterprise Systems Administration and Infrastructure team, the Senior Systems Administrator will help develop and plan for the next generation of technology infrastructure solutions and will work cross functionally to bring robust, scalable, stable applications to the Tufts community. S/he will help define requirements for packaging of deliverables, installation methods, and all other needs to ensure platforms move to production efficiently and with stability. This position will develop plans for the evolution of the centralized virtual infrastructure, maintain infrastructure for deployed server base, ERP infrastructure, and look to evolving technologies to increase the services provided to improve the enterprise based services provided by the larger TTS team. Additional duties include processing technical support tickets, generating/updating team documentation as required, and performing service checks for the deployed enterprise environment and participating in off hours on call rotation.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5 years of progressive system administration experience in a complex heterogeneous environment.
  • 5 years of operational or development/QA experience in Enterprise applications.
  • Experience working with teams in an Agile development environment.
  • Familiarity with Linux configuration management tools (Puppet preferred, Chef, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Virtualization, VMware, KVM.
  • Familiarity with Relational Database technologies (MySQL / MongoDB preferred).
  • Creating and Documenting procedures for use within the teams (Confluence and/or other Wiki).
  • Demonstrated experience with Cloud Infrastructure (Amazon, Rackspace. Google, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to code in a scripting language (one or more:Bash, Python) as well as fluency in one or more programming languages like Ruby in order to develop tools / programs to efficiently manage the operation and maintenance of the environment using Puppet.
  • Experience with system and application performance measurement and troubleshooting.
  • Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, Firewall, VPN).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in systems evolution and change in a service based environment.
  • Experience with large-scale enterprise storage systems (SAN or NAS) as it pertains to archiving and storage based service offerings.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco UCS Network knowledge of Cisco, F5 Load Balancers, and Juniper firewalls.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Occasional evening or weekend work, as well as the ability to participate in a 24x7 on call rotation.
