President

Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, Washington seeks nominations and applications for a dynamic, collaborative president to lead the continued evolution and excellence of the College. Founded in 1965 as one of 34 community colleges in the state and reporting to a five-member board of trustees, the president will lead a vibrant and diverse institution serving 13,000 students annually. One of five community and technical colleges in the greater Tacoma region, TCC is the leading institution for students transferring to four-year colleges and universities, with 62% of students pursuing a transfer curriculum in one of 54 disciplines. In addition, two-year degrees resulting in a 77% placement rate are offered in such fields as paralegal services, cyber security, nursing, radiologic science, respiratory therapy, emergency medical, and other health science services. Accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, TCC has been regionally and nationally recognized as one of the top 50 community colleges in the country.

The successful candidate will be a natural and collaborative leader with business acumen as well as an effective advocate in developing new public and private resources for the college. In addition, TCC’s next president must bring a commitment to diversity and a sensitive and sophisticated style that will further intercultural understanding on campus and in the community. The new president will also demonstrate a capacity for creative and effective partnering both on and off campus that will benefit the college and broader community. Finally, the successful candidate will bring academic and administrative leadership credentials demonstrating a deep understanding of the role of a successful community college in the urban context of the 21st century. Strong preference will be given to candidates holding the appropriate terminal degree in their field and who bring a deep understanding and appreciation for the Northwest.
