Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Sport

Southern Methodist University offers an exciting unique opportunity in the Applied Physiology and Sport Management and the Master of Science in Sport Management programs. Candidates must have a minimum of a master’s degree in sport management or sports marketing. Applicants should demonstrate real-world experience in the sports industry, a minimum of 5 years, as well as a record of accomplishment teaching sport management courses both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates who also have a terminal degree will be preferred.

 Responsibilities:  This position requires directing and overseeing both the undergraduate and the graduate sport management programs involving curriculum issues, recruiting students and faculty, assessment and overall promotion of the sport management programs. The successful candidate will also teach the equivalent of 3 classes per semester including but not limited to: Contemporary Issues in Sport Management; Applied Sport Management Skills; Advanced Public Relations in Sport; Sport Management Practicum; Sports Finance; Sports Marketing; Sales and Promotion; Sports Law and Ethics/Society in Sport.  This Director’s position includes both undergraduate and graduate advising. For the undergraduate sport management majors the advising focuses on  the general education curriculum and major degree program requirements along with undergraduate internship opportunities and projects with local and national sports organizations.  The Director will also oversee and coordinate the internship placements for the MSSM (Master of Science in Sport Management) graduate students.   The candidate should have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills that promote strong collaborations in the sports industry throughout the United States.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. This is a non-tenure-track 12-month renewable contract clinical position, 00053172, which begins fall semester 2018.
