Foundations Coordinator

Full/Part Time Status:Full Time Service Schedule:Academic Year

Position Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Art seeks applications for Foundations Coordinator, a full-time, four-year renewable term position.The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of accomplishment teaching foundations of art and design, demonstrate strong interpersonal and administrative skills, and have experience with curricular development.

Responsibilities: Teach three courses per semester (combination of 2-D Concepts, 3-D Concepts, Drawing I, and II); advising; supervise student peer mentors; organize programming for weekly Friday symposium (attended by all first-year students); organize experiential learning opportunities (such as field trips); serve as contact for first-year students regarding university resources; and aid in curricular development associated with the Foundations Sequence with a vision towards integrating digital skills. In consultation with the studio and design faculty, the Coordinator will evolve the curriculum to respond to new developments in art and design pedagogy. A commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduates, steady expansion of professional exhibition record, and an active participation in departmental and university service is expected.

Education Requirements:

MFA in Studio Art required.

Required Qualifications:

University teaching experience (graduate instruction will be considered), a demonstrated record of accomplishment teaching foundations courses in 2D and 3D media, a professional exhibition record appropriate for the level of experience, and a portfolio of innovative artwork also required.
