Assistant Professor, Jazz & Music Education

Full/Part Time Status:Full Time Service Schedule:Academic Year

Position Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's School of Music invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Jazz and Music Education to begin August 2018. This position will direct the second jazz band, teach the graduate Jazz Pedagogy course, provide private individual instruction to undergraduate and graduate students in jazz piano, and teach courses within the Music Education curriculum. Additional assignments in the Jazz and Music Education divisions may be made according to expertise and department need. Additional responsibilities include recruiting potential students and maintaining an active performance and service portfolio.

Education Requirements:

Doctoral degree in music with evidence of completion required by August 1, 2018.

Required Qualifications:

Jazz piano skills essential. Recognition for excellence as a performer/composer/arranger in the jazz idiom is required. A minimum of two years of experience teaching in K-12 public schools also required.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with prior teaching experience at the collegiate level.
