Summary of Job Duties
The School of Social Work at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Social Work. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank. We seek applicants who demonstrate the ability to work with diverse populations as well as contribute to the diversity of the campus and who are well prepared to teach courses in a cutting--edge and accredited graduate program.
We seek applicants with research interests in one or more of the following areas: rural communities; multi-generational families; aging populations; military social work; innovative engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation in practice across the life course; child welfare; health disparities; food insecurity, economic justice, or criminal and juvenile justice.
The successful candidate would teach in both the BSW and MSW programs and across at least two curricular domains ( HBSE , practice, policy, and research). Faculty are expected to teach weekdays and evenings, and should be open to teaching in online formats.
Qualified candidates must have a viable agenda for scholarship, a MSW degree from an accredited university, and a Ph.D. degree in Social Work or a related field. (Promising ABD candidates are welcome to apply and will be considered with the condition that the degree needs to be completed before starting employment).

  • Doctorate from a nationally recognized and accredited institution in social work or a related field conferred by the start of employment
  • MSW degree from a CSWE -accredited program
  • Eligibility for Arkansas state licensure ( LMSW or LCSW )
  • Commitment to the active pursuit of a research agenda leading to refereed scholarship, professional presentations, and external funding
  • Strong interest in and a professional commitment to the preparation of professional social workers
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and collegiality

  • Demonstrated strong research agenda and practice orientation
  • Ability to teach across at least two curricular domains
  • Training on at least one online teaching platform
