Grant Writer & Report Manager

PAY GRADE: 30E

This is our time to shape the future and we are looking for a Grant Writer & Report Manager who will be part of the team that helps in propelling us forward. Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations in the Office of Development & Alumni Relations, this new role will serve as the researcher and primary writer for University-wide funding proposals as deemed appropriate depending on content topic. The Grant Writer & Report Manager will also manage organizational prospects to advance UD's priorities and develop policies that enhance coordination and collaboration of grant proposals across campus.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Designs and maintains a comprehensive program of research to identify prospective corporations and foundations, their giving interest, board members, and UD relationships. Assemble a grants calendar and solicitation plan.
  • Conducts proactive research on prospective corporate and foundation donors as requested. Becomes familiar with the University's top donors, prospects, and institutional strategies, while maintaining accurate records related to companies and foundations.
  • Communicates with faculty, deans, research deans, Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships, and the Central Research Office to facilitate information dissemination and collaboration of monthly funding opportunities as well as make connections to university resources.
  • Partners with the Central Research Office to fully understand and assist with the University's limited submission process. Monitors, identifies and disseminates large limited submission funding opportunities aligned with University of Delaware strategic initiatives and research growth goals.
  • Provides high-quality grant writing and report writing, creating budgets for, reviewing, and editing proposals and letters of inquiry for corporations and foundations following guidelines, parameters, and procedures.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of corporate and foundation reporting, drawing upon campus expertise and high-level written concepts to make a strong case for grant requests.
  • Maintains relationships with University Sponsored Program Coordinators, Business Administrators and other Grant Writers embedded in the colleges to prepare and submit timely proposals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree with four years of grant writing, professional writing or related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of best practices in proposal development with the ability to conduct research. Success at planning and managing multiple projects with deadlines. Proficient computer skills with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to conduct and analyze web based research. Ability to learn additional campus-wide software. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Knowledge and ability to keep information confidential. Ability to solve problems using logic and analytical skills. Ability to learn subject-specific terminology for use in developing written materials. Knowledge of when and how to use various channels of communication. Prior fundraising experience preferred.
