Media Services Technician

Job Summary
The IT Media Service Department at Skidmore College invites applications for a full-time, 12 month Media Technician position. This position plays a diverse and intricate role in the operations of Media Services. The general objective of the position is to facilitate the use of technology in the educational process at Skidmore. This process is carried out in a variety of ways such as classroom support, project development, media production, event support, and laboratory support, facilitating equipment use and providing technical assistance to clients.

Clients served by this position include virtually the entire college community: students, faculty, staff and administrators as well as invited guests of the college. It is vital that the individual in this position be knowledgeable in the Media Services field, personable, and able to effectively communicate (sometimes under stressful situations) with a diverse set of clients.

Venues served by this position include over 70 classrooms and laboratories, 5 auditoria, a media lab, sound studio as well as more obscure locations across campus that may include lawns, Porter plaza, dining halls, and stables. Each of these venues has their own particular needs and challenges for the media technician to assess and meet.

Supported services include computer and video projection, audio enhancement, video and audio production, video or audio projects, graphics, and poster printing. To accomplish these tasks, the media technician must have extraordinary organizational skills, significant knowledge of a diverse set of computer programs as well as a variety of Media Services equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience with the setup and troubleshooting of audiovisual equipment, presentation technologies, sound systems, recording equipment, or some combination of these skills are essential. Customer service and excellent interpersonal skills are essential. The ability to manage projects and follow through until completion is vital.

Preferred Qualifications
College degree is preferred; experience in a higher education setting and previous Media Services support preferred; experience with equipment installations and repair preferred; background in the basics of videography, photography, digital editing, and scanning preferred; an understanding of basic computer networking is also desirable. Familiarity with patching audio and video equipment into various systems and using a variety of interfaces and switching systems is preferred.
