Department Summary:
Bridgewater State University welcomes approximately 1500 transfer students each year. The Transfer Center is committed to helping students transition with ease by providing students with the tools and resource needed to foster student success and provide students with the maximum benefits available to them in transfer.

Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Transfer Center director, the staff associate fosters a welcoming and supportive culture for transfer and commuter students by planning a series of programs and events, assisting with commuter compliance efforts, and supporting students in the absence of the associate director. The staff associate will also manage the day to day operation of the Transfer Center, including student employment hiring, training, and evaluation, customer service, and student communication initiatives. These efforts support the overall success of our transfer student population.

This is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of Transfer Services

Essential Duties:
EVENT & PROGRAM PLANNING
In collaboration with campus departments, develop transfer and commuter initiatives that welcome and integrate students into the campus community, including orientation and transition programs with the office of New Student & Family Programs and the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership.
Create, promote, and assess educational, informational, and developmental programs for transfers and commuter students that fosters out-of-class connections with faculty, staff and on-campus students.
Support student success by providing customer service and advising services through expanded formats such as evening and weekend times, and through the use of emerging technologies.
COMPLIANCE/ADVISING
Throughout the pre and post admission phases, discuss transfer credit options and help students navigate the transfer process through one-on-one advising sessions to ensure compliance with statewide programs.
Provide personalized advising services that complement and reinforce the students educational program and career goals.
Refer transfer and commuter students to appropriate faculty, staff and current students to support their success efforts.
Serve as a resource for transfer and commuter student families.

OPERATIONS / ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
Assist the director and the associate director with the day-to-day management of the Transfer Center and implementation of the Centers policies, programs and services.
Assist the Director and Associate Director with scheduling, procurement, and budget duties.
Build community through Transfer and Commuter Life social media outlets (Facebook, twitter, etc.) and updating students on relevant information regarding community events.
Assess, monitor and track the needs of the transfer and commuter student population, recommending new initiatives that encourage involvement and participation that will meet the needs of the students.
Participate in committees and task forces where appropriate and when time and interest permit.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelors Degree.
2. Three years of related experience is required, especially in the areas of academic advising, college teaching and/or delivery of academic support services (can include Graduate Assistantships/Internships).
3. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Strong team, interpersonal and collaborative skills are essential.
4. Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures is required.
5. Demonstrated ability to work in stressful situations required. Position requires sensitivity to human concerns, flexibility, patience, professional integrity, and a concern for the needs of students in a demanding academic context.
6. Self-initiating person, detail oriented, organized and able to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Masters Degree preferred.
2. Ability to implement technological solutions in the delivery of academic advising services is critically important.
3. Knowledge of DegreeWorks and Banner.
