Assistant Professor, Mathematics Education

Full/Part Time Status:Full Time Service Schedule:Academic Year

Position Description:

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track position in elementary or secondary mathematics education at the assistant professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to have expertise in elementary, middle grades or secondary mathematics education and to teach a broad spectrum of courses in mathematics education throughout the undergraduate curricula and in master's degree programs. There are expectations for scholarship leading to publication, grant writing, curriculum development, and professional service. Scholarship that includes student participation is encouraged. A standard teaching load is 18 credit hours per academic year. The department has a strong tradition of excellence in teaching and supports research in mathematics and mathematics education.

Education Requirements:

Candidates must possess a doctorate in mathematics education (ABD will be considered if evidence of degree completion by the start date of August 15, 2018 is provided).

Required Qualifications:

Documentation of ability and interest in maintaining a superior teaching record, and an emerging or established record of scholarship required.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference is given to applicants who have teaching experience in K-12 classrooms, a history of working with K-12 schools, recent mathematics education collegiate teaching experience including elementary or secondary methods, and evidence of using research-based best practices, including the use of instructional technologies.
