Associate Controller

This position will provide leadership, financial management, and planning for the General Accounting and Data Control operations. Other duties include: manage the planning and preparation of the annual financial statements; serve as liaison to the State and Independent auditors for year-end audit and annual audits of all Office of Finance operations (payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, data control, general accounting); complete all special projects as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Finance/University Controller and serve as the responsible party in his/her absence for all financial matters related to compliance with Federal, State, and University policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration and CPA certificate or eligibility. A bachelor's degree in a related field with experience equivalent to a master's degree may be substituted. Significant managerial experience, specifically in the areas of financial accounting, grant accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting. Strong background in accounting and financial reporting. Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ) and fund accounting. Working knowledge of computer systems and reports. Extensive analytical abilities. Strong communication skills, ability to get ideas across, establish work schedules, and establish goals and objectives for staff. Good oral and written communication skills.

Department Information
The Office of Finance is responsible for all financial processing at the University and ensuring compliance with all Federal and Commonwealth of Virginia regulations and laws. Internal controls are established by the Office of Finance to maintain sound accounting and administrative systems for the University.
The office serves a broad range of customers (students, vendors, faculty, staff). The Assistant Vice President for Finance / University Controller is responsible for oversight of the Office of Finance.
