Staff Musician

Salary: To commensurate with education and experience

POSITION: The School for Classical & Contemporary Dance (SCCD) at Texas Christian University seeks candidates for a Staff Musician position. This position is a full-time, 9-month, exempt staff position with possibility of annual renewal.

STARTING DATE: August 15, 2018

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
  • Accompany daily studio classes, including ballet, modern dance, contemporary dance, pointe, variations and others as assigned
  • Train dance musicians and manage their schedules for daily studio classes in conjunction with the SCCD Director
  • Teach required BFA course, Music for Dancers, to include a full range of information from basic music theory and classical structures to contemporary forms and practices
  • Secure music copyright clearances for SCCD productions and provide regular updating of music copyright usage processes and procedures
  • Provide sound design including recording, editing, and coordinating audio for SCCD concert productions
  • Supervise and support the organization and maintenance of sound equipment in dance studios
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE: The SCCD seeks candidates who are experienced dance musicians and committed, engaged and passionate artist educators able to work successfully with diverse constituencies. Skills in effective collaboration and communication (oral and written) with faculty, staff and administrators are required as well as (1) the Bachelor's degree in Music, or undergraduate degree with equivalent professional training and/or professional experience, (2) minimum two years' experience as a dance musician specifically in dance accompaniment and (3) composition and/or audio editing/mediated sound experience. Knowledge of classical and contemporary music repertoire, ability to provide a wide range of musical choices in the studio setting, sight-reading and improvisational skills are also required. A minimum one-year of teaching experience at the college level is preferred.
