Job Summary

This is a non-benefits-eligible, on-call position in the Art Museum. The Museum Security Officer has general responsibility for public safety, property protection, and is responsible for maintaining order and secure conditions within the Museum and on the Museum grounds. Officers perform a variety of duties, following policies and procedures involving the protection of cultural properties belonging to, and under the care of, the Museum of Art at Bowdoin College. Duties include supervising visitors, responding to emergency situations, observing for fire, theft, vandalism, and other threats,and other similar duties as assigned.

Education/Skills Requirements

A High School diploma or GED equivalent is required; successful completion of some college work is preferred. Strong communication skills; the ability to deal calmly with a wide variety of people in varying, often stressful circumstances; ability to complete detailed written incident reports, logs, forms and written communications concerning work related activities are required.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

CPR and AED certified.

Standard Work Days and Hours

General hours fall between 7:00am and 7:00pm with later evening hours scheduled for events and late openings. Due to the nature of security work, there is no set timing and officers can expect varying shifts seven days per week.
