Position Summary

The School of Social Work at The University of Alabama invites applications for the position of Assistant/ Associate Dean for Administration. The Assistant/ Associate Dean for Administrative Services of the School of Social Work will manage and support administrative activities in the School of Social Work providing leadership and support to the administrative staff. The Assistant/ Associate Dean of Administrative Services will assist the Dean in coordinating and operationalizing various projects and initiatives related to the achievement of the School of Social Work's strategic goals and objectives.
The Assistant/ Associate Dean for Administrative Services will be responsible for the following duties:
Directing and managing the process of refining, and monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the School's Strategic Plan.
Preparing and/or contributing to the preparation of reports, briefings, presentations, and responses on strategic planning issues, on behalf of the Dean as appropriate.
Providing strategic consultation to School's Leadership Team on key institutional issues.
Initiating projects and programs in direct consultation with the Dean, and coordinating their implementation and completion in collaboration with appropriate leadership and staff.
Working in conjunction with the Associate Director of Development to provide support to the Development Office to ensure that fund-raising efforts are integrated and consistent with the School's overall mission, goals, and objectives.
Working in conjunction with the School's Communications Team, ensuring consistency with the School's mission, objectives, and strategic plan.
Working in conjunction with Facilities Management and directing the School's Operations Coordinator.
Providing administrative direction to ensure that all the School's facilities planning,
development, and management activities and initiatives are consistent with the School's strategic, operational, and fiscal needs and objectives.
Directing the development and maintenance of the School's comprehensive facilities Master Plan; ensuring that the Master Plan remains consistent with and responsive to the School's mission, goals and objectives, and overall strategic plan.
Coordinating special projects on behalf of the Dean, frequently involving the leadership team of the School of Social Work.
Identifying emerging issues in the local, State, and Federal arenas that have potential impact on the School's mission, goals, and/or operations, and recommending strategies for advocating the School of Social Work's position on these issues.
Serving as key member of the Dean's Office responsible for central coordination of all activities ensuring information flow to and from the Dean's Office.
Preparing and/or contributing to the preparation of reports, briefings, presentations, and responses on institutional and strategic issues, as appropriate.
Participating with the Dean and other leadership team members in policy development/modification and problem resolution.
Collaborating with School leadership to develop and implement plans regarding
operations infrastructure, processes, and personnel in order to accommodate a more efficient/effective environment.
Planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating strategic operational and administrative programs, projects, and/or services of broad significance to the organization.
Working in conjunction with the Dean and the leadership team for staff professional development.
Providing guidance to the alumni affairs and faculty development functions to ensure that activities in these areas are integrated and consistent with the School of Social Work's overall mission, goals, and objectives.
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in social work, social welfare, or a closely related field. Candidates must have at least two years of administrative experience and a record of funded research and scholarship, which includes published research in refereed journals and/or books and a continuing record of mentoring junior faculty and doctoral students. We are strongly invested in recruiting colleagues who demonstrate knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of culturally diverse and underrepresented populations and communities, as well as a commitment to social justice. Applicants should have an interest and expertise in reaching our diverse student body through online and face-to-face instructional education.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferable qualifications include a MSW with two years practice experience. We are especially interested in applicants who have expertise in the areas of higher education administration, organizational leadership and administration.
School of Social Work
The University's School of Social Work, established in 1966, has an accomplished faculty of 22 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 11 full-time teaching faculty and 21 dedicated professional and support staff. The School has a long-standing internship program in Washington, DC and several international initiatives in locations including China, Hong Kong, Mexico, Ghana, South Korea, Scotland and Cuba. The School of Social Work has an active enrollment of approximately 382 students in the MSW program, 200 students in the BSW program, and 30 students in the Ph.D. program.
Our school enjoys excellent collaborative relationships with social service agencies throughout the state of Alabama. Additionally, there are many opportunities for interdisciplinary research within our school and university. Within the School of Social Work, we have the Youth Service's Institute, whose funding comes from the Department of Youth Services and Department of Justice. Within the University, the School of Social Work will work in collaboration with the University of Alabama's Therapeutic Riding Program.
We also have strong program relationships with the Capstone College of Nursing, Culverhouse College of Commerce, the Law School, the College of Engineering and the College of Community Health Sciences. Additional collaboration involves affiliations with the University's research centers and institutes, including the Alabama Research Institute on Aging, Institute for Rural Health Services, the UAB Comprehensive Center for Aging, the Institute for Social Science Research and the Center for the Prevention of Youth Behavior Problems - all of which provide rich opportunities for interdisciplinary and inter-professional research and collaboration. Additional collaborations include those with the University of Alabama at Birmingham's School of Public Health.
