The Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor- Cropping Systems Physiologist. This faculty position will be a nine-month, tenure-track position with a 75% research and 25% teaching appointment. The projected start date is August 16, 2018.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a nationally recognized research and teaching program focusing on the integration of crops adapted to the southeastern United States and cropping system response into an economically and environmentally sustainable system under both irrigated and rain-fed conditions. The incumbent's research will evaluate physiology of agronomic crops, with the possible inclusion of horticultural crops, and innovative technologies for improving production under various environmental or management stress conditions. The successful candidate would specifically focus on the interface of crop physiology with biotic and abiotic stress, precision agriculture technologies, weed management systems, climatic changes, or soil and water resources.

Teaching responsibilities include providing instruction support and expertise in the areas of crop physiology, crop science and crop ecology. The successful candidate would be expected to recruit and train graduate students in crop physiology. The incumbent will be responsible for teaching two classes per academic year. In addition, the successful candidate will provide mentoring for graduate students, as well as undergraduate students in the Crop and Soil Sciences major production and science tracks. Departmental, college, university and professional society committee service are also expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in crop science or agronomy, with expertise and training in crop physiology, by the expected position start date. Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research and teaching in crop science or agronomy resulting in peer-reviewed publications is required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across disciplines and develop a collaborative research program. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Desirable qualifications include: a background and training in crop physiology and evaluation of agronomic traits.
